Part of the mission of our practice is to redefine the perspective of rattan furniture, using contemporary design as a way to preserve high-quality local craftsmanship that is on the brink of being lost. 

Rattan is a local material that is not only abundant in Southeast Asia, but it is also deeply rooted as part of our culture of craft and making, and has potential as an alternative sustainable material. 

Kelana is a handcrafted sculptural modular sofa that rethinks how craftsmanship can still be part of the global furniture industry—a future for mass production that still involves hands and natural materials. The design of the sofa merges local sustainable materials, craft heritage, and international aesthetic, while also highlighting the material’s key feature, which is its flexibility.
